Paris Sao Paulo by Carven is an Oriental Spicy fragrance for women - cinnamon and dark rum poured over vanilla. Bergamot lifts the opening just enough, then cardamom, labdanum and orange blossom give the spice room to breathe. Tonka bean and patchouli finish it warm, boozy and unmistakably nocturnal. Carven was a Paris couture house before it was a perfume house - founded in 1945 by Marie-Louise Carven, who made her name cutting clothes for women who, like her, were not tall.
Ma Griffe arrived a year later and was launched by parachuting sample bottles over Paris, which tells you most of what you need to know about the house temperament. The style has stayed green, crisp and youthful ever since: Paris Santorin built on fig leaf, iris and immortelle, Paris Sao Paulo on cinnamon, rum and cardamom.
Green and white have been the house colours since Carven found a bolt of striped fabric in a château attic. Imagined, created and manufactured in France since 1946.
