Sound of a Ricochet by Floraïku is an amber vanilla eau de parfum for women and men - composed by Sophie Labbé for the house's Kodo collection, after a haiku of a red dragonfly under a burning sky and a stone skipping across a lake. Vanilla absolute opens it already warm, tonka bean turns the heart powdery and almond-soft, and sandalwood carries it down into a creamy, balsamic base that stays on the skin for hours. Floraïku is a Paris house founded in 2017 by Clara and John Molloy, the couple behind Memo Paris. Every fragrance is named after a three-line haiku, and the founders call the whole line their Western fantasy of Japan - one image of nature, one season, and one line that becomes the name on the bottle.
The perfumes are grouped into three collections that honour Asian ceremonies built around flowers, tea and incense, and each one is a short formula around a few precious materials. Sound of a Ricochet comes from the incense collection, devoted to Kodo, the Japanese art of listening to fragrance - vanilla absolute, tonka bean and sandalwood under a burning summer sky. My Love Has the Colour of the Night goes darker and drier, with smoky guaiac wood, patchouli and vetiver.
Both scents in the store were composed by Sophie Labbé, and both are worn close and slow, the way a haiku is read. Created and made in France.
