Louis Vuitton has been making trunks since 1854 and perfume only since 2016, when the house installed Jacques Cavallier Belletrud - a Grasse perfumer born into a family of perfumers - in a restored workshop at Les Fontaines Parfumées and gave him time rather than a brief.

The house works with a small number of materials at very high grades and declines to publish conventional note pyramids. Ombre Nomade is the one that changed how collectors read the brand - Laotian oud, raspberry and incense built into a dark resinous wall that has become the reference point for modern oud rather than an imitation of a Middle Eastern one.

The fragrances are sold only in the maison's own stores, which is the reason a decant market exists at all. Composed in Grasse and made in France.
