Three his and hers perfume pairs for every day, each built on one note you both like: chocolate, mandarin, resin. She wears one, he wears the other.

Couples, don't share a perfume. Share a note.

Wearing his bottle, or both wearing the same one, flattens two people into one smell. Two random perfumes on one hug do the opposite: they fight. The trick sits in between. Two different perfumes with one note in common. She wears one, he wears the other, and the trail you leave together is one scent.

This is the first of four posts, a fall wardrobe for two, one post per Moment. This one is Everyday Signature: three pairs for the scent you wear most.

The one you repeat

The everyday scent is the one you wear most, so the note you share has to be one you both still like by evening. For fall, that is chocolate, mandarin and resin.

Three pairs for every day

Every perfume here is in our Everyday Signature collection, and every one comes as a sample, so you can try both sides of a pair.

1. Chocolate, twice

Shared note: chocolate. Chocolate on both. Hers goes milky, with vanilla. His sits next to coffee and tonka. A café at eight in the morning with the heating on.

Hers: Lait et Chocolat, Chabaud. Dark chocolate and jasmine on top, teak and cedar in the heart, then chocolate, milk, vanilla and musk. Shop Lait et Chocolat

His: Amyris Homme, Maison Francis Kurkdjian. Sicilian mandarin and rosemary, then amyris, iris, milk chocolate, coconut and coffee over tonka bean. Shop Amyris Homme

2. Mandarin first

Shared note: mandarin. Mandarin on both. Hers turns to oolong and fig, his to vetiver and cedar. Peel on the counter, the kettle already on.

Hers: Wulong Chá, Nishane. Bergamot, orange and mandarin, then oolong tea and nutmeg over fig and musk. Shop Wulong Chá

His: 20 Iconic Masculin, Clive Christian. Petitgrain, mandarin and pink pepper, then yuzu and rosemary over Haitian vetiver and cedar. Shop 20 Iconic Masculin

3. Resin and dark wood

Shared note: resin. Benzoin and labdanum on her, pine and maple on him: resin on both. Red tea under hers. A wood-panelled room in November.

Hers: Winter Palace, Memo Paris. Lemon, bergamot and clove, then red tea, mate and orange blossom over vanilla, benzoin and labdanum. Shop Winter Palace

His: Bowmakers, D.S. & Durga. Resins, mahogany, pine, maple, leather and walnut. Shop Bowmakers

Watch the pair

The reel above follows the resin pair: Winter Palace for her, Bowmakers for him. Two perfumes, one base. Across the room, one scent.

Which pair is yours?

  • You both want something sweet and warm: Lait et Chocolat + Amyris Homme.
  • You both want it fresh first: Wulong Chá + 20 Iconic Masculin.
  • You both want it dark and woody: Winter Palace + Bowmakers.

Try both sides

A pair only works if both of you like your side. So start with samples: wear yours for a day, compare in the evening, and come back for more of the ones you both reach for again.

The short version

  • Couples smell better in two different perfumes that share one note than in one shared bottle.
  • For every day, pick a note you both still like by evening.
  • Three pairs: chocolate (Lait et Chocolat + Amyris Homme), mandarin (Wulong Chá + 20 Iconic Masculin), resin (Winter Palace + Bowmakers).
  • Try both sides of a pair as samples before you buy.

Questions we hear

Should couples wear the same perfume?

You can, but you will smell like one person. Two different perfumes with one note in common keep each of you recognizable and still read as a pair when you stand together.

What does a shared note mean?

One ingredient both perfumes are built around. In the chocolate pair, it is chocolate in both: milky with vanilla on her, next to coffee and tonka on him.

Which pair is the safest start?

Mandarin. Citrus opens both, and neither turns heavy: Wulong Chá goes to tea and fig, 20 Iconic Masculin to vetiver and cedar.
